A series of audio or video files that are syndicated over the Internet and stored on client computing devices for later playback.
Podcasts were invented due to the increasing popularity of mobile media devices. The term is a portmanteau of Apple’s iPod (arguably one of first mainstream mobile media devices) and the word “broadcast”. Users can subscribe to a podcast and receive media files that can be saved in their own computers, as opposed to a regular (streaming) webcast that has to be downloaded for each playback. This feature allows more convenient access on the user’s end.
