Tools and conferences.

Hotjar responses say you are most interested in tools and conferences.

Lucky for you, these are MT’s two content cornerstones. Conferences, now. Tools, soon. Podcasts and videos will still play an important part, because they are too useful to miss, but only a few embeds, to help with load time. Plus, whatever else is hot each week. 🔥

Let’s focus on one tool that is free and can make a big difference in your work today.

TinyMCE Advanced extends the default editor in WordPress by adding more TinyMCE plugins and buttons.

Notice the extra buttons in this screenshot of the WordPress editor? Some of these could save you real time. I have personally saved hours while editing the conference calendar.

But wait, there’s more. I enjoyed this tool for weeks before realizing it was customizable. Doh! Take a few minutes to tweak the settings and make this work harder for your needs.

This post was powered by the Pomodoro Technique. 🍅

Per Wikipedia:

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. The technique uses a timer to break down work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks.

There are six steps in the technique:

  1. Decide on the task to be done.
  2. Set the pomodoro timer (traditionally to 25 minutes).
  3. Work on the task until the timer rings. If a distraction pops into your head, write it down, but immediately get back on task.
  4. After the timer rings, put a checkmark on a piece of paper.
  5. If you have fewer than four checkmarks, take a short break (3–5 minutes), then go to step 2.
  6. After four pomodoros, take a longer break (15–30 minutes), reset your checkmark count to zero, then go to step 1.

The creator and his proponents encourage a low-tech approach, using a mechanical timer, paper and pencil. The physical act of winding the timer confirms the user’s determination to start the task; ticking externalises desire to complete the task; ringing announces a break. Flow and focus become associated with these physical stimuli

More than productivity, this technique can lead to a huge surge in energy and creativity.
